Love Is Forgiving!

Cate and Martin were in the sitting room just chilling in the afternoon, listening to the album 2014 FOREST Hill Drive by J Cole when suddenly, Martin started the dialogue that changed their mood. Here is how it went;  Martin:  I don’t get why your friends don’t like me, till now… Cate : ( shocked) Baaabe, why? Why do you want to go there… you know this will go south real quick, yes? Martin:  Noo… I need to understand. Is it because I did not buy them mzinga the other day at Gemini? ( A club in Nairobi), you understand I was … (in low tones, as though ashamed) You understand I was broke, yeah? Cate : It was not a must, by the way, they were not even serious when they asked you for the bottie! And I understood, I understand your situation … Martin : You know I only tolerate them because of you, kwanza that mother hen, Susan…is just (clicking) Cate : Babe, please! But you know they are also mad and disappointed with what you did, especially Susan… It was h...

Nviiri Inspired - Niko Sawa !

Nviiri was her favourite singer, she thought he really sounded amazing ! ‘A young talented beautiful man who I would not mind getting to know, as friends of course…’  Maggy then winked and giggled sheepishly because she knew she did not mean as a friend friend; he was her crush. We all knew that. But this entire article is not about Maggy nor Nviiri, so we will jump straight into it, shall we? Nviiri is a Kenyan musician (I have to say this for two categories of people: the first category is for one or two of my non-Kenyan readers and the other category is for Kenyans who live under the rocks, in caves, because surely, how do you not Nviiri?) So, he just released his song Niko Sawa – ft Bien. Here is the song, you are welcome :)   https://youtu.be/xHN_G3jdbdA  So, this led us to a discussion of nonchalance and conflict management in relationships, romantic ones. On Nonchalance:   Going by the Cambridge dictionary, Nonchalance is the calm behaviour that su...

Issa Break-Up!

“ This is not working for me; I think we should part ways, the sooner the better, before we start hating each and this becomes more toxic than it is right now” Jason uttered these words with no hint of empathy. His tone was so harsh and for a hot minute, I could not recognize the guy anymore. He was not the sweet boy I fell in love with a year ago.   We were sitting at the Food court at Sarit center. I looked at the ceiling to hold the tears that were threatening to gush out of my eyes. My heart was beat ing a bit faster. This guy took me out on a date to break up with me. He was so cold, icy, heartless…this is not what I signed up for when I accepted to go on this date. Come to think about it, I did not know what I was doing sitting there. After weeks and even months of the patterns of his behavior , I should have gotten the cue to just move on. To accept that that, whatever it was, was not going anywhere. But I was a naïve girl, green on matters of love & relationships, a...

Love and Other Short Stories!

Hey there, February has always been a month that set the momentum for the rest of the year for me. Either through moving houses, switching jobs, or even taking different routes in relationships. So, I cannot wait for what this month holds. Happy February fox!    February is known as the month of Love. The month where love is celebrated left , right and centre . We see couples going out publicly, hotels and restaurants filled to capacity , lovely Airbnb's spots fully booked ,   and most people wear clothes with a touch of red to celebrate Love. But Lemme ask, who is this who chose red as the color of love ? What was he, she or them thinking? I question this because I am Kenyan . Our flag has four colors , including red. The red symbolizes the struggle and t he blood that our ancestors shed during the fight for independence by independence . So, with this context , saying that red symbolizes love is quite   unfathomable simpl y because love should n...
