Day 1- My City, My Town
I write this article very well rested. Last week I was on leave, so I went to our Home in Eldoret. I am at the age where home could mean three different things, but let us not get into that.It was in Eldoret where I was born and bred.
The first thing you notice when you arrive at Eldoret
is the air is fresher in that part of the country in comparison to Nairobi. It
is less chaotic there, in both human and vehicle traffic. There is an urgency that
Nairobi has that Eldoret lacks. This is however not to say that Eldoret is not
a hub for business, entertainment, and such, because the town has grown by leaps
and bounds for the last couple of years. What I am trying to say, in a nutshell,
is I really liked the calmness Eldoret provided. I recommend such calmness
when your body is over the hastiness this jungle called Nairobi weighs on us.
The time in Eldoret made me think about my writing
journey and my aspirations with this platform. Consistency in writing has been
the greatest challenge. I would give you a million excuses for why I do not
write as much as I should, but I am just sick and tired of my own excuses in all
honesty. So, because I choose to be a
proactive individual, I will participate in the writing challenge that writers
normally do when they have a writing slump. It is the 30-day challenge. This is
where you just sit down and write. Rusty as it may be. Just write. And because I
am kind of shameless about my writing process, I will post them on the blog. I
am not promising perfection, because I am aware that perfection is one of the
things that holds me back in posting my work. This is not to say I will be careless
with my writing, I will do my best, so help me God.
I have mentioned how Eldoret has grown, yes? Eldoret has
a mall now. And it’s a proper mall guys.
A mall with a cinema, and a world-class gym, Miniso is also in Eldoret. Other
proper stores and restaurants that were only found in the city are in Eldoret. See,
this development for us who left Eldoret to look for greener pastures in
different towns, is kind of a big deal to us. The affordable lifestyle is even
more attractive. For the first time in so many years, I considered relocating when
all the factors were right. City life is exciting but in all grand of things, a
small town with the city’s facilities is where it is at, in my opinion. Maybe it
is an age thing, maybe it is the Rutonomic, I don’t know. Anyways, if you are a
city dweller, have you ever thought of relocating to a smaller town?
And this is where my ink’s pen dries. We try again
tomorrow! I hope you stay around.
This is so nice to read. Will travel to Eldi next week and it already sounds exciting. Very good writing Stacy!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your writing and I hope consistency finds you or you find it. And horray to Eldoret my favourite town. All the very best!
